It’s been two months since the 8 English U18 teams left the Netherlands after their 2-week pre-season trip. They’ve already started off their new season in England and we, of course, hope the ‘lads’ are doing well back in the UK.
We also hope that the pre-season tour contributed to an energetic start of the new season. The magazine ‘Touchline’ that has recently been published by LFE, proves the tour was a success.
A 2-page article in the magazine shows quotes and pictures of the pre-season tour. Both players and coaches of the English teams speak about their Holland experience and most importantly they recognize the advantages of going abroad and obtaining experience with different playing styles. The tour was a great chance for everyone to learn from each other, acknowledge both the coaches as well as players.
The Academy Manager of Portsmouth FC for example says: it’s not enough to just play in our own country, you have to learn to play against different styles (Mark Kelly). A player of Birmingham City FC mentions the importance of learning about other countries’ history as well and a player of Sheffield United FC mentions how important it is to get along with different training approaches. Especially technical ability and playing on various positions across the field which are typical for Dutch football are different than in England.
It was a pleasure for AcademyTrips to organize this 2-week tour for the English clubs!
