Vancouver Whitecaps’ U20 team has been the very first team to travel to Mexico with AcademyTrips! Read on to discover how the team from Canada experienced this unique trip.
In October 2018 the Vancouver-based squad made a 9-day trip to Toluca, Mexico; the capital of Mexico state. It’s located about 50 kilometres south-west of Mexico-City, at the base of Nevado de Toluca volcano. Toluca itself lies in a cool valley at an elevation of about 2,680 metres, which makes it one of the highest situated cities in North America.
During their trip, the team enjoyed many training sessions at the impressive Mexican Football Federation complex and played friendly matches against teams from several local clubs: Toluca FC, Cruz Azul and Club America.
Besides playing, the players also got to enjoy some free time and sightseeing activities. One of the highlights was visiting Estadio Azteca, home ground of Club América, Cruz Azul and the Mexico National Team.
Vancouver Whitecaps’ Dave Irvine, described the course of the trip as very smooth. “We appreciated the matches that were set-up as well as the training grounds made available to us. The opposition and facilities were great. Benjamin, our AcademyTrips Tour Manager was an excellent addition to the trip and he was incredibly helpful throughout.”
We would like to thank Vancouver Whitecaps for travelling with us and we are happy to welcome them in the future!
